Our Programs
SIM has initiated several programs to help New Americans across various aspects of their lives. We provide holistic spiritual interventions, social interventions, and youth interventions to provide the support and assistance African immigrants and refugees need.
Spiritual Intervention
We understand that faith in Christ can make the impossible possible. That is why we have based the foundation of SIM on bible study groups where challenges like mental health issues can be addressed through prayer and counseling. This program aims to provide encouragement and create a sense of belonging for African refugees and immigrants. We execute this program through African diaspora outreach, online resources, and follow-up processes.
Social Interventions
When we identify particular needs in community groups, we may execute social intervention programs to provide direct assistance, such as mental health counseling or medical clinics. Our groups also provide financial literacy, interpretation and translation, and job assistance to help African immigrants and refugees break through the structural inequalities that deteriorate their quality of life. With our efforts, we aim to rehabilitate New Americans and break the cycle of homelessness and joblessness.
Youth Interventions
The youth are often the most at risk of drug abuse and other evils due to feeling out of place. An identity crisis among New Americans is noticed where they do not identify with their new culture, nor with the African American culture. This feeling of being out of place manifests in the form of depression and substance abuse, and in its worst form, can even lead to suicide. Our youth intervention programs encourage communication, self-awareness, and peer-to-peer support during the difficult years of adolescent development in order to better guide the youth to fulfilling lives and a sense of belonging.
